The stories of the catastrophic floods that destroyed so much of Lismore in February 2022 have been publicly described in the mass media and on social media.

This series of small paintings is one of the very smallest stories of the flood. My friend Marie had, in three formerly out-of-flood storage units, the contents of her second hand bookshop, her vintage clothes business, and a lifetime of personal items and furniture packed up ready to move house. They were all inundated. Rescuing, then cleaning, Maries eclectic china collection felt like the flood experience in microcosm. As each piece was restored, its beauty shone out – like those parts of Lismore that make our town so special, that are slowly being restored. With each piece saved, hope felt more possible, as too does the town emerge from the mud of this disaster.

Presentation

The works are watercolour on gessoed board. Some include acrylic, or pen. All media is lightfast, but the watercolour is unstable – just as it is on paper. Consequently the works are only sold framed, behind glass, in order to protect the painting.
Please discuss with Christine if you’d prefer a different presentation.
